I tried to cook takenoko once ... our Nihonjin friends gave us a chunk as a special gift, with the comment ...&quot;It is very easy to prepare. Just peel off the outer layer and boil it all day.&quot; ... &quot;Then peel it again, cut it into chunks, and cook it some more.&quot; ... &quot;Then cut it into smaller pieces and THEN it will be ready to prepare however you want it for the dish you have chosen.&quot; Whew. For me, &quot;easy to prepare&quot; would mean &quot; peel it, cook it, and eat it!&quot;</description>
